Position Overview

You will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a Class A commercial motor vehicle to transport freight to assigned destinations. This is a safety-sensitive role requiring adherence to all federal, state, and company regulations. You must maintain high standards of professionalism, reliability, and customer service at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate tractor-trailer or other Class A vehicles on local, regional, or over-the-road (OTR) routes.

  • Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicle, trailer, and cargo.

  • Secure, inspect, and verify loads; ensure cargo is properly balanced and secured.

  • Plan routes to meet delivery schedules, using maps, GPS, dispatch communications, and road knowledge.

  • Maintain accurate driver logs (hours of service) and submit required trip paperwork (bills of lading, delivery receipts, fuel/toll receipts).

  • Report mechanical defects, damages, accidents, traffic violations, or other incidents to dispatcher or supervisor immediately.

  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance (e.g., checking fluid levels, tire condition) or coordinate repairs with maintenance team.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with dispatch, carriers, customers, and other stakeholders.

  • Comply with all DOT, FMCSA, state, and company safety, hours-of-service, and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist with loading or unloading cargo when required.

  • Follow standard operating procedures, company policies, and safety guidelines at all times.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in good standing.

  • Minimum age: 21 for interstate driving (varies by state) (or as required by law).

  • Satisfactory driving record (no serious violations) and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).

  • Must pass DOT physical and maintain a valid medical card.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and periodic tests per DOT rules.

  • At least [1–2] years of verifiable Class A driving experience (or more, depending on route complexity).

  • Ability to read maps, use GPS/navigation tools, and follow route instructions.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to detect vehicle problems.

  • Good communication skills and customer service orientation.

  • Ability to lift, climb, bend, and perform physical tasks associated with handling freight.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on assignment.

  • Compliance with all federal, state, and local trucking regulations and safety rules.

Preferred / Optional (if your operations include these)

  • Endorsements (e.g. HazMat, Double/Triple, Tanker, etc.).

  • Experience with specific freight types (reefer, flatbed, dry van, intermodal, etc.).

  • Experience with ELDs (Electronic Logging Devices) and trucking dispatch software.

  • Local/regional knowledge of certain geographies or lanes.

Working Conditions

  • Long hours and frequent driving; may be away from home for extended periods (for OTR assignments).

  • Overnight driving, rest stops, and parking in diverse locations.

  • Must adhere to mandated rest breaks, hours-of-service rules, and fatigue management standards.

  • Required to maintain a clean safety record and cooperate with investigations or audits.

  • Participation in safety training, driver coaching, and compliance programs as required.
